Didder's Pen: Didder's Column On Copenhagen Fashion Week AW15

News article

Impressive, yes and with quite an international eye opener fashion week was kicked off in wonderful Copenhagen in the select company of Style.com that now also writes reviews from Denmark. The fashion site, which is the world’s most recognized, has up until now only found Paris, Milan, London and New York important enough.

Congrats, Copenhagen and thank you to Eva Kruse and Anne Christine Persson, CEO and VP/Development Director, Danish Fashion Institute and Copenhagen Fashion Week. For almost a decade the two have lobbied for the cause in the above-mentioned fashion cities where they move around as I shop in Netto. All the while having green enough fingers to also deliver “the greenest fashion week around” quote: Financial Times. They are spoken about in wide circles all the way to UN, New York. Just like Danish fashion’s festival, now with growing pains, so you reach all citizens with museum exhibitions, Pop-Up cinema, debates and library interviews i.e. Stéphanie Surrugue / Nathalie Rykiel at The Black Diamond.

No doubt, sustainability was a hot topic when politicians mingled with fashionistas and bloggers at show crowds and Minister for the Environment Kirsten Brosbøl went to war against clothing waste. Danes throw out 89,000 tons of clothing every year. Shame on us.

At The Jewellery Room, which was opened by Eva Kruse with guest of honour Crown Princess Mary at the H.C. Andersen Palace, sustainable jewellery by Kinraden was among the news with marvellous temptations from Georg Jensen, Ole Lynggaard, the Shamballa brothers, Maria Black among others. Remember to check the budget: now rings in plural are placed out on the fingers’ middle joint, preferably on several fingers at a time.

In passing three short notes:
Ole Yde was back on the Danish fashion scene. That feels great.
28-year-old Mark Tan stormed through as a big talent promise.
Iconic Mads Nørgaard’s Charlottenborg show was one only delightful and young happy affair. Way to go!

See you in select company to another Copenhagen Fashion Week in August.
